Covergirl BB Cream vs. CoverGirl Tinted Moisturizer

After my post from yesterday about the new CoverGirl CGSmoothers BB Cream, I heard from several of you who said that this product is actually the same as the existing CGSmoothers Tinted Moisturizer, only with a new name.

I didn't want to state that in my blog post until I could verify that the ingredients were 100% identical. So thanks to many of you for giving me information about this, and specifically to reader NaturalBeauty26, who shared this link to her blog post, where she posts side-by-side photos of the ingredients list for each product. It appears that the ingredients are identical.

Thanks so much to everyone for the helpful info, and to NaturalBeauty26 for the side-by-side comparison post.

  1. I think it's shameful. They could have at least tried to make an original product.

  5. what a bunch of crap. That is flat out lying to consumers. Grr. It is bad enough that maybeline created a "BB" cream that is basicly glorified tinted moisturizer but now they dont even try to glorify it with cover girl. Grrr. And all I want is an affordable BB cream that doesnt leave me greasy in the summer like garnier. And I dont even have oily skin to begin with.

    1. I really like the skin 79 oriental gold one, but the one I found online was 23 or something. If that is too spendy there is a nice one from Holika Holka called petit clearing bb cream that I found for 12 dollars (I think there are eBay sellers that have it for cheaper than that, I just wanted to get it from a website I knew would be selling the real thing.

  6. Just because its the same ingredients doesn't mean that it might not be a slightly different formula. Because couldn't the ingredients be in different proportions/ratios/amounts than the TM? Just saying :)

    1. in most cases, in the US, ingredients on cosmetics are listed in order of percentage, in descending order (highest first, lowest last). If you look at the link in this post, you'll see that the both the ingredients AND the order of the ingredients are identical. So no, i'm pretty sure it's the exact same ingredients AND the same ratio of ingredients.

  7. Very very sneaky. I don't like that kind of practice.

  9. And this is why I've been deeply disappointed with American BB creams. I've heard a lot of people say 'this seems like a tinted moisturizer, but I am shocked to see it literally repackaged as one. Most (not all) of the American ones lack the true multi-tasking abilities of a bb cream.

In my opinion, a true bb cream is foundation, concealer, SPF, serum, skin brightener, etc all in one. It is not a tinted moisturizer :(

  10. G., wonder if you could do a comparison post about different so-called BB creams. I'm very confused -- are U.S. manufacturers all just slapping the BB designation on tinted moisturizers? What might be some good options for us consumers who want less coverage than a foundation but more than a tinted moisturizer? Are there Asian or European ones available online? THANKS!

    1. I've bought a couple, and read detailed reviews on the rest. The only one in the market right now that is any different is the Loreal BB skin beautifier (the one with the beads). I'm not saying it is comparable to Asian BB creams, as I have never used any of them.. but it is very different than the rest. Every other one is more or less a clone of the Garnier one. A tinted moisturizer.
