The Wednesday Question

I don't know about you, but my feet despise cold weather. I feel like I'm in a constant battle against rough, dry heels during the wintertime, which has inspired me to ask you the following question:

What's your foot-care routine?

Mine is a three-part system. I use a Ped Egg about once a week. I also use my trusty Swedish Clover Foot File every other day in the shower. And at night, I slather on various creams and hope for the best. How about you?

  1. I use LUSH's Lemony Flutter Cuticle butter whenever my heels start to feel undesirable. I put some on, put on some socks, and let it work its magic! I'm telling you.. that stuff is amazing. It keeps your feet baby soft for weeks after one use!

Before I discovered Lemony Flutter, I used to use an old fashioned file whenever they got too bad, but I haven't had to use one since trying Lemony Flutter.

  2. LOL this question is hilarious to me! Fortunately, I do not suffer from dry feet. My routine is very simple: they get washed indirectly by the soap and water running down on them in the shower, I put lotion on them after every shower (currently using Vaseline deep conditioning lotion), and keep the toe nails painted and clipped to a reasonable length. Occasionally I put a shea butter body balm on them...but not on a consistent basis.

  3. My winter routine is pretty much the same all year. I use the Ped Egg once or twice a week, Heel of Approval (Bath & Body works), & use Vaseline & sleep with socks when they need extra special care. I'm hoping to add the Easy Feet to my routine just because it looks so fun and relaxing! :)

  4. I slather on vaseline and put a pair of footies on and go to sleep.

  5. I'm bad, I don't do anything to keep my feet happy. Half the time I forget to put lotion on them after I shower! When I do remember I exfoliate with a loofah (need to get a pumice stone, I love those) then take the richest body butter I can find in my closet, slather it on, let it sit for a minute, then toss on some socks and slippers before plopping in front of the PS3 to let the lotion do its magic.

If my feet are really, TRULY awful I might try some (this is a weird one) lip balm. I have a tube of yuzu-scented lip balm that smells... not like yuzu, so I use it on chronically dry skin. It's thick and a bit sticky so it takes forever to soak in but it works AMAZINGLY well. I wouldn't recommend doing this with a waxy or overly oily balm. If you don't like how it feels on your lips it probably won't help the rest of your skin.

  6. Loving this post because my feet despise the cold weather!

  7. There's nothing that makes my feet softer than using Lush Cosmetics Volcano foot mask, followed by a L'Occitane foot scrub (that my sister picked in Paris. I looked on the USA site and it looks like it's either discontinued or not sold here. I'd say Lush's Buffy would work as a great replacement!) & then I use Lush Cosmetics Fair Trade Foot Lotion. Then I put on a pair of cotton socks and let it all soak in and no matter what, I end up with soft feet. Hooray!

  8. I use a file when needed, and then when I get out of the shower, and before going to bed, I slather on some Vaseline and put socks on. Sometimes I use cuticle oil if things are looking a little rough.

  9. I don't do much, but I suggest Sally Hansen's instant cuticle remover (the blue one) for calluses - it works really well!

  10. Wow I go to huge lengths with my feet. While in the shower, I scrub with one of those styrofoam-y pumice things and conditioner. When I get out, I rub with a mix of Eucerin and Kerasal. If I'm sitting around the house barefooted and feel a rough place, I pick up one of those super rough emery boards like they use for pro mani's and smooth. The Kerasal is a wonderful exfoliant - by keeping it on my skin, the places where the skin likes to get thick are much more easily scrubbed off. It's helped a bunch for keeping my wildly-growing cuticles in check.

  11. I just keep my socks on and ignore the problem.

    j/k :p

Once a month I do a warm foot soak for 20 mins with Lavender Sally Hansen foot soak. During the soak I apply bbw Toe The Line foot scrub. Then I file the dead skin off with some file from Sally Beauty supply. When I'm done I put bbw Shea It Isn't So foot cream.

For the next few days I apply foot cream after the shower but a few days later I forget or get lazy and leave it til next pedicure. Avon foot soaks work well too but they always seem to get rid of the best scents. I had a ped egg once but for me it wasn't as efficient as the foot file so I tossed it. It does take a few tries to find the perfect foot file.

  12. I just polish my toenails about every three weeks. Fortunately, my toenails grow out before my polish actually chips. My feet are naturally callous-free (yay!), so I don't have to do anything other than wash them with a shower pouf and shower gel every day.

  13. My routine is the same all year round. I have an assortment of foot scrubs and creams and other things. I think foot care is rather relaxing...lol. Twice a week I use a foot scrub in the shower. I apply a foot cream and a touch of pure shea butter after I get out of the shower. I also apply a cream at night before bed (although sometimes I forget).

I bought a cute inflatable foot bath from Sally's for cheap that I soak my feet in about every other week. I throw in either some foaming foot bath or Blue Cross Cuticle Remover, soak for 15-20 minutes, then scrub off any hardened skin w/ a foot file. Then I paint my toes (I keep them painted all the time) and apply foot cream. I just bought some sloughing lotion for the feet as well but I haven't used it yet. Yep, I like taking care of my feet. I never know when my toesies might be making an appearance (like throwing on peep-toe pumps at the last minute) so I like to keep them looking good all the time.

  14. My heels had gotten really dry and hurt like crazy a little while ago. A few people told me to try Aquaphor and that's what I've been using. I had been wearing regular socks to bed but I found some that just cover my heels and have a gel coating inside. I got them from Sally's Beauty Supply but Earth Therapeutics makes them as well and I like their version more. I've seen their stuff at Ultra, Kohls, Wal-Mart and Target. These hold the lotion next to my heels and don't soak any up. I was wearing them every night with lotion but now I use them every other night or less. My heels aren't cracking and don't hurt though they're still dry.

The Ped Egg is great but when my heels get too dry I can't exfoliate without making them worse. I'll try again soon. I'd like to try a foot bath, too.

What I really want to do is find a place that does a spa manicure where they deal with calluses. I had one once but the few I've had since don't include that.

  15. i hate what winter does to my feet! i get huge callouses on both of my big toes. my routine changes a lot. right now i'm using freeman hydrater right out of the shower, followed by white tube socks. in the tub i use a tweezerman pumice stone, freeman foot scrub, and i used to have a swedish clover file, but i lost it when we moved! at night i use kerasal or amlactin foot cream. since this doesn't work that well, i bought a tweezerman callous shaver, and all that did was leave me with bloody spots on my toes! and the callouses were back in less than a week! and i have done the foot bath, foot masks, etc!

  16. Burt's Bees makes a coconut foot cream that is amazing. It smells great and softens your feet right up. Plus, its really rich so you only use the smallest amount and a tube lasts forever. And its available at just about every drugstore, double plus. I use it and so does my husband. Great stuff.

  17. The best treatment I've found is Stridex pads (maximum strength, in the red container). Just rub one pad all over rough spots. They clear them up really well. I need to find a new cream, I've just been using whatever body lotion I have...the Lemony Flutter one from Lush sounds perfect!

  18. An article I read mentioned this product recommended by many podiatrists. It's called AmLactin foot cream. The only drugstore that carries it (that I know of)is CVS. I tried it and was blown away. I could actually tell the difference in one day. It was amazing. The tough callouses on the sides of my big toes are just gone. I wish I could afford to use their body lotion (it's $25 a bottle) on my crazy dry skin.
