Spotted: New Physicians Formula Nude & Smoky Shimmer Strips Collection

Longtime reader and photo contributor Jess just spotted the new Physicians Formula Nude & Smoky Shimmer Strips Collection at CVS and was nice enough to share (lots of) pictures!

The display does not indicate that these products are limited edition--they seem to be an extension of the popular Nude palette that PF release back in December of 2011.

As you'll see, each of the products in this collection has a "nude" and "smoky" version:

Coming in December: IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Cream SPF15

A huge thanks to reader TheVoiceOfReason for the heads-up on this one:

Calling all BB cream fanatics: there's a new option on the horizon. This December, IMAN is launching her new Skin Tone Evener BB Creams which, according to nymag.com, "...are specifically formulated to seamlessly match her own complexion as well as 35 other skin tones." (And apparently she's eventually going to be launching BB eye products, concealers and bronzers. Click here to read the full article.)

Here's a video for more details:

According to InStyle, The IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Cream retails for $20 and it will hit stores and imancosmetics.com in December.

Vo5 to launch new Salon Series line with a fragrance "like no other"

Do you know what Vo5 stands for? If your answer is "no" you're not alone (see the end of this press release for the explanation).

Fans of V05, we've got a very exciting product launch to look forward this February! Read on for all the details.

(from Happi.com)
Alberto VO5 To Launch Upscale Styling Line

In February Alberto VO5 will introduce Salon Series, its first foray into the “value-plus” segment, which generated more than $200 million across food, drug and mass channels last year (excluding Wal-Mart), said Nina Riley, vice president of marketing for High Ridge Brands, which owns VO5.

Industry sources estimate that the range — priced from $2.49 to $5.99 — could generate between $25 million and $30 million in its first year at retail in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The collection, which will be sold in more than 5,000 doors, is comprised of 15 shampoos, conditioners, stylers and treatments. Each product contains natural oils from botanicals like honey, papaya, kiwi, marigold and sweet almond. “The fragrance is like no other,” said Riley, who said she is also focused on increasing brand awareness after a survey revealed that 98 percent of women could not identify what the name, V05, actually stood for. The answer is five essential vitamins: E, H, C, B3 and B5.

Not just nail lacquer...Nuance Salma Hayek to release BB Cream and more?

A heads-up for Nuance fans: In addition to the new nail lacquer collection I posted about yesterday, it looks like Nuance Salma Hayek is also planning on releasing a BB cream and products for adult acne in the future...

(from Happi.com)
Salma Hayek knows that sequels can pay big dividends for studios. The same rules apply to cosmetic lines. No wonder then, that the actress is taking her CVS-exclusive skin-, body-, hair-care and cosmetics line, Nuance, into the nail category.

Nuance Salma Hayek Nail Lacquer, which will begin rolling out to all 7,300 CVS locations and cvs.com on Nov. 19, is available in 30 shades, from the blush-hued Bare Kiss to inky Black Dahlia. Each is $5.99.

The line also includes a protective base coat, formulated with bamboo extract, and a chip-resistant top coat. Industry sources estimate the collection could generate between $6 million and $8 million in its first year at retail in the U.S.

As she works to promote the nail care line in 900 CVS “Nail HQ” displays, Hayek told WWD that she is determined to expand Nuance into other beauty categories, such as BB creams and products for adult acne.

Not discontinued...

Wet n Wild Color icon Eyeshadow Singles in Brulee and Nutty at CVS

Over the past several months, I've had several readers ask me if Brulee and/or Nutty have been discontinued. My response is "No!" but I've noticed that certain retail locations no longer carry these two shades. The photo above was taken at CVS a few days ago; if you live in an area where CVS carries Wet n Wild (some do, while other CVS locations carry NYC), then you're in luck. I've noticed that the Rite Aids in my area do NOT carry Brulee and Nutty though, which is a bummer since those are staple shades for many of us.

I don't know about Walgreens, Target, Kmart and Walmart, so I'd love it if you could leave a comment on this post and tell us whether you've spotted either shade at any of those retailers recently.

Thanks!

L'Oreal Shine Caresse glosses and Colour Riche Quads: Coming this Spring!

A huge thanks to Liz of Beauty Black Book and reader @05Huebner for this one!

Jane Larkworthy, W Magazine Beauty Director, tweeted a pic today of a preview of the L'Oreal Spring 2013 releases and it indeed includes the Shine Caresse glosses (YSL Glossy Stain dupes), the Colour Riche Eyeshadow Quads and also some other new things.

In addition to the Shine Caresse glosses and Colour Riche quads, I spot some jumbo concealer/highlighter(?) pencils, new polish shades, new Nail Lingerie, new mascaras and also new blushes with the word "Lift"(?) on the front of the case. Exciting!

Thanks so much, Liz and @05Huebner, for the heads-up!

Spotted: new nail art kits and body washes

Given the increased popularity of nail art these days (as well as nail polish in general) I guess it's no surprise that different nail art techniques are going "mainstream". Swatches of the two Blue Cross Holiday Light Nail Colors I thought I'd never find

If you caught my post earlier this week about the Blue Cross Beauty Holiday Lights Nail Colors that have been popping up at Rite Aid recently, you know I went a little crazy for them (click here to see swatches of the shades I purchased and also bottle shots of the entire collection).

Well in that post, I mentioned that there were two other polishes in the display that I was kicking myself for not grabbing (there's only one shade each in the display so you don't have many chances to get these). I ran back to Rite Aid the day after my initial post and I managed to get BOTH of them, so yay!

NOTE: thanks to several readers for pointing out that the polishes in this collection also seem to be surfacing in the Blue Cross Beauty Snowman nail polishes for Holiday 2012. The annual "invasion of the snowmen" hasn't hit my local Rite Aids yet, but if you see the snowmen in your area (click here to see last year's if you don't know what they look like) look for the colors in this post as they might be coming to you in snowman form instead of Holiday Lights form.

As I mentioned in my previous post, these polishes are 3-Free and made in the USA.

Blue Cross Beauty Holiday Lights Nail Color
(retail: $4.99 each, 0.05 oz)

I love the lights in the handles because they really light up the nail during application (only one of the five polishes I've purchased contains a light that blinks--the other four have static lights).

Review: Aveeno Active Naturals Pure Renewal Dry Shampoo

Longtime readers know that I'm a bit of a dry shampoo connoisseur and I've lost count of how many dry shampoos I've reviewed here over the years. I've got oily skin, oily roots and side-swept bangs, so dry shampoos are a necessity for me when I skip a day between washings. A few sprays and my bangs can return from the Land of Grease to live another day!

I was very excited when I received the new Aveeno dry shampoo for review a while back because I've had good experiences with Aveeno haircare (I'm a big fan of Aveeno Nourish+ Moisture Shampoo, which won my Cheapie Award for "Best New Shampoo" in 2009). I've been using this dry shampoo for over a month now, so let's see how it's been working for me.

The new Pure Ice Nail Polishes are Limited Edition

In case you missed it, Pure Ice recently launched 55 new shades at Walmart (click here, here and here for bottle shots and swatches). Well I just saw this article, which gives us a bit more info about this new launch:

(from Happi.com)

Pure Ice Launches Walmart Exclusive

2012-11-07 | 01:27
Pure Ice debuted its new Runway Nail Trends Collection, a limited-edition collection that will have digits looking fashionable this holiday season, according to the company.

Launching exclusively at Walmart stores in November, this collection contains the high-quality, innovative formulas that Pure Ice is known for, featuring everything from textured suede effects to metallic chromes to full-coverage glitters and more, it contends, for only $1.97 each.

The Runway Nail Trends collection varies from Velour Finish that dries to feel like suede to Diamond Couture, a full coverage, single-coat glitter.

I apologize if some of you already knew this, but I haven't seen this display in person and I haven't seen pics of anything on the display to indicate that these are Limited Edition. I just wanted to share in case you're falling in love with these polishes--you might want to stock up while you can! (And let's hope these will eventually be added to the permanent collection.)

Review: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes in Candy Coral and Plum Wine

I didn't plan on writing a review for these blushes since they're not new and I'm sure most of you have either already read your fair share of reviews, or you already own some of these blushes and have your own opinions of them. But when I picked them up at a local store recently for $1.99 a piece, and I actually started to use them, I decided that I'd like to share my opinion of them with you. If you've been on the fence about these, maybe this review can help.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes
(retail: $7.99 at most major drugstores, 0.19 oz)

Available in ten shades, Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes seem very Japanese-influenced to me, which is indeed what attracts me to them--I love Asian beauty products. The word "bouncy" is a word I would expect to find in the title of a Japanese beauty product and the fun texture is something rather unusual for a US drugstore product. If I remember correct, these blushes were released in Asia before the US (although I could be wrong).

Take 30% off everything in the Bloom.com store with code THANKYOU30.

Registration is required to access the Bloom online store (once you register, click the "PRODUCTS" tab to access the store). Some items are sold out, but I spotted lots of Zoya and OPI nail polish (for reference, Zoya polishes are $6.40 with the discount), as well as some EcoTools brushes, lots of Stila cosmetics and the Balm cosmetics as well as other makeup, skincare, fragrance, bath and body and haircare brands (drugstore brands too).

I tested the code on the Clarisonic (Classic) and you can get it for $105 shipped. You get free shipping on orders of $49 or more ($5.95 shipping for orders under $49).

I'd hurry though, because things seem to be selling out quickly...

The results of last month's reader poll (and the year-end poll is now live!)

First and foremost, thanks to everyone who took the time to nominate products for the Cheapie Awards Reader's Choice Award for Best New Affordable Beauty Product of 2012. I whittled down the most popular nominations and the poll is now live (see right-hand sidebar). I would love it if every single one of you took a minute to vote (and thanks in advance!).

NOTE: If you see products in the poll that you think were released in 2011, you're right. But those products were actually released in the US at the very end of 2011 (such as L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows) so they're technically 2012 releases because they didn't receive widespread distribution until 2012.

Now for the results of last month's poll:

When it comes to drugstore beauty,
what's most important to you?

(TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES: 7,413)

First Place:
Quality
(2,135 votes)

Second Place:
Price
(1,646 votes)

Third Place:
Value
(1,151 votes)

Honorable Mentions:
Convenience/Availability (601 votes)
Cruelty-Free (513 votes)
Brand Reputation (482 votes)

So, how did your choices rank in this poll? Do you agree or disagree with the winners? And if you voted for "Other" what would you have liked to have seen as an option in this poll?

Gorgeous, right?

As Abigail noted, the current L'Oreal eyeshadow quads are on clearance at Walgreens right now, so it's no stretch to conclude that they might be making room for these. My best guess for us seeing these in the US is early 2013 or possible Spring 2013, but that's only a guess, of course.

In honor of Election Day here in the US, e.l.f. is offering free shipping on orders of $15 or more with code VOTE15 (expires at Midnight tonight, 11/6).

Sidenote: I hope everyone reading this who is in the US and of voting age is getting out to the polls today to let your voice be heard. Also, I would like to pass along one little tip to you if you're a new/young voter:

Many (many) years ago when I voted in my first presidential election, I didn't know that you could leave things blank. I thought that if you voted, you HAD to cast a vote on everything on the ballot (propositions, city council members, etc.). Well, I later found out that this is not the case, so I would just like to pass that along to you if you're not aware. It's OK to leave things blank on your ballot if you're not sure about how to vote. The votes you DO cast will be counted, so don't let that stop you from voting.

Happy election day! If you'd like, leave a comment if you voted today (please don't reveal who or what you voted for though--I'd like to keep this non-partisan). I'd love to know how many Nouveau Cheap readers voted today!

Dupes and lookalikes in the Blue Cross Holiday Lights Nail Color Collection (swatches)

Let this post serve as a reminder for all us to never, ever, EVER dismiss cheapie nail polish collections at the drugstore. If I didn't have a blog, I might have given this display a casual glance and kept on walking. But since I tend to seriously examine every new product at the drugstore for the purposes of this blog, I discovered a little gold mine at Rite Aid today. I literally rushed home to swatch the polishes I purchased from the display so that I could get the word out to my fellow lacquer heads ASAP (there's only one of each color in this display so these will probably go quickly).

Blue Cross Beauty Holiday Lights Nail Color Collection
(retail: $4.99 each at Rite Aid, 0.5 oz)

Unlike the Disco Lights Collection from Blue Cross Beauty, where the glitter polishes were kind of run-of-the-mill and similar to their Pumpkin and Snowman glitter polishes, there's a world of new, glittery beauty awaiting you in the Holiday Lights collection.

Since my post from yesterday about the great deal on the new Holiday 2012 Spoiled by Wet n Wild Nail Pail at CVS (click here here for all the details about the sale this week), I've received some comments indicating that the photo on the CVS website doesn't quite match what's actually in the real-life pails. Lipstick League Question of the Week:

Do you get excited when you finish a beauty product?

G's answer: It depends. If it's something that I'm trying to finish in order to "allow" myself to replace it with something new, then I definitely get excited when I'm done with it. But if it's a staple or Holy Grail product, then I usually get a little annoyed that I have to run out and buy another (if I don't already have back-ups purchased when the product was on sale).
